Question:
I don´t think I have Asperger´s syndrome!!!?

A few weeks ago I was diagnosed with asperger´s syndrome. The problem is that I don´t feel like I have it. When I read about the symptoms on the internet I find it hard to relate to them. I feel way more nerotypical. I´ve also made a few internet testings and they all come to the conclusion that I don´t have it. It makes me feel lost and I want to know why they diagnosed me with it.

Here comes a list of the aspergers related symptoms which I do have.

-In some occasions I find it hard to make eye contact.
-I prefer to wear the same/same kind of clothes every day(though I don´t get anxious when I don´t).
-Sometimes smalltalk can be difficult to me.
-I have a bit weird walking style and a slightly monotonous speaking pattern.
-I´ve had some trouble in school because of my inability of structuring my work.
-Sometimes I might seem to be a bit slow(I need clear instructions sometimes).
-The only person I want to be with on my spare time is my older brother.
-I´m an extremely nervous public speaker(though I am good at theatre).
-I´ve never been good at sports.
-I have hygiene problems(I didn´t know how to use shampoo till around age 12).
-During my teen years I have developed a fear for my cousins and sister.
-I can be extremely awkward around girls.
-I don´t participate in other peoples intrests.
-When it comes to my own intrests I can be somewhat of a perfectionist.
-Sometimes I dont feel as happy or as sad as I think I schould.

That´s pretty much it.
Here comes a list of the non-aspergers related symptoms which I do have.

-I both read and make facial expressions.
-I have no problem empathizing with other people.
-I don´t follow any daily routine.
-I don´t feel anxious about change.
-I´m not too logic.
-I can enjoy bragging about things(I just don´t always wan´t to show it because I am a bit shy).
-I don´t have any sensory issues(not that I know of).
-When I was a kid I enjoyed playing games involving pretending.
-I do not get anxious around new people.
-I understand sarcasm and metaphores.
-My IQ is average(if you have aspergers you have either high or average IQ).
-I know how to behave in social situations.
-I can be spontaneous.
-I am not viewed by others as eccentric.
-I don´t feel like I belong on an other planet.

I would really like to hear someone elses opinion on this. I don´t think that I am the only person facing this problem after getting diagnosed.

By the way... I am 16 years old.

Did the doctor who diagnosed you not say anything about why they believe you have it?

If you doubt the accuracy of your diagnosis then you can seek a second opinion with a different doctor. That really is your best shot at finding out whether you really have it or not. We can only speculate about it, since a lot more needs to be taken into consideration than what you described here.

Based on your description, I think it is possible that you've been misdiagnosed, but the only way to be sure is to be evaluated again by a different doctor, perferrably one who specializes in autism spectrum disorders.

All of those symptoms tell me that you are likely to have Asperger's. And since you have been diagnosed, you probably do.

I'll address each of the reasons that you think you might not have it.

Even if you read and make facial expressions, you might not have the correct one for the situation.

The lack of empathy is a myth. People with asperger's seem not to have empathy because we don't show it in the socially correct way. I actually over-empathize, other peoples emotions overwhelm me.

You don't have to have routine. Not all aspies do. You may have other routines that aren't daily, for instance always wanting to go to the same restaurant every time you go out.

You don't have to be anxious about change either, not all aspies have every symptom. You only have to have a certain number to be diagnosed.

I like to brag about things I'm good at. I've never heard not bragging as a symptom of asperger's before.

Not all aspies have sensory issues. If you don't, count yourself lucky, they usually cause more problems than the social aspect of asperger's.

I played pretend too. I just didn't do it normally the way other kids did. Maybe you did as well? If not, it still doesn't disqualify you from aspiehood.

Not all aspies have trouble with sarcasm. I love sarcasm. It's the main part of my sense of humor. Which aspies DO have.

As you said, aspies can have high OR low IQ.

You may not be behaving as well as you think you are in social situations. NT's don't come out and say things like that like aspies would. They make give subtle looks that you make be missing. Self awareness can be impaired in asperger's.

I am spontaneous too.

You may or may not be thought of as eccentric. You don't know what people are thinking. Or are saying behind your back. They will also lie if you ask them if they think you are weird.

Not all aspies feel like they are on the wrong planet. Some actually think that aspies are better than other humans because of some of their enhanced abilities.

maybe you do, maybe you don't. Some people have very mild aspergers syndrome and they have very little effects of it. Maybe you just have a very small form of it? If they gave you that diagnosis, there would have to be reasons. The ones you mentioned are all signs of aspergers and not much else except selflessness, or other mental problem. You do not have to have every single sign or symptom to have it. Yiou can actually have it with fewwer then you listed. Not everyone is the same, like I said before.

Wow....it sounds to me that you've been misdiagnose. Talk to your doctor about that. I feel like I don't have it either, but my parents say that I have mild autism and I'm consider learning disabled because of it. I was diagnosed at 2 in a half. Life sure's unfair for an aspie. That's just my opinion.

Good query. A Biblical literalist could ought to, I think, with the intention to be regular with their interpretive method. It's fascinating to me that the myth of the wealthy younger ruler is instantly known as to brain by way of such a lot of, and so much are correct, it is not close to riches, but additionally approximately being totally stylish on God. However, later in Luke, Jesus does say that a individual can't be his disciple until they stop all that they own. Likewise, the guide of Acts attests that the church required all people who desired to belong to it to promote their possessions and preserve all matters in traditional in order that the items might be dispensed as men and women had want. However, Jesus himself had possessions, so did his disciples (even though those possessions were not many). So as it's with a lot of Jesus' sayings, it's regularly hyperbole. Still, the factor is that men and women will have to no longer be stylish on cash, they will have to believe wholly in God, and so they will have to percentage what they've with others, peculiarly the least amongst us. What he had in brain wasn't throwing our mere desk scraps to the deficient (which I admit I am responsible of), however alternatively, to provide lavishly to others at the same time dwelling a meager way of life ourselves. I suppose the Jesus of the Bible could be disenchanted in so much Christians at present considering so much folks are living in remedy and protection at the same time so much on the planet are living in squalor and indigence. It could also be fascinating that the church as an tuition ignores this command of the only they profess to comply with. The early church met in houses, no longer costly structures. I marvel what Jesus could suppose of those colossal church buildings, costly schooling wings, basketball courts, tremendous fellowship halls, ornate decorations, and many others., that represent many church buildings at present. It is, simple and practical, greed and institutional ego. Imagine what number of deficient men and women might be helped if church buildings could ship the money from what they raised for a constructing software to people who real might advantage from the money. Nice query, sorry for the lengthy put up, however there may be plenty at the back of what you could have written there.
