Im a deaf parent of a 16 year old boy. Im trying to get my son into the job corps. I asked for accomodation for communication. I am supposed to go to the tour and interview with my son. How do I understand anything if no interpreter. Who is Job Corps with? US Govt? They said I have to provide my own accomodation. What about the ADA? What are my rights?

life sux. the world does not revolve around you or your son. help him get a job he can do. my daughter is deaf and is about to get her degree in physics. it's tough luck you lost your hearing. stop blaming the world for it.

ps .....this is to tisha. the days are over when you can whine "i be blak". get off your fat black a** and do something.

You can contact the ADA info-line for information and to ask wether you're protected by section III of the ADA.

angie: Job corps is a project of the Department of labor. And regardless of it being a public or privately run entity, it still has to comply with the act as it runs in public.

If they aren't going to provide an interpreter, ask if they can use text. Any computer with Word will suffice. Better yet, if you have a laptop, bring that with you.

It sounds fishy to me that they aren't providing accomodation though. I would ask them exactly where it says they're allowed to NOT provide accomodation, and if they can't tell you, I'd be calling the ACLU.

i believe job corps is private and they do not have to accomidate for your son
