to go. She told me I couldn't work. Most folks in this section work. Do you feel I'm a lazy SOB or am I simply on a guilt trip.?

I agree with both sides a little. I don't think you're lazy as I have had depression and know how much it paralyzes you. We can't really make a judgement about your situation because we don't know you.

However, it can be very hard and you will have to fight the illness. You can't just sit back and expect the medication to work miracles by itself. Keep active and try to be positive. Focus on the fact that you will be going back to college. You aren't lazy - you just need time to become stable enough to cope with studying again. Good luck.

First of all, ignore the two rude answers you got first. I don't know what "section" you are referring to in your question. Unless you mean where you live?

What I think is that your doctor is looking after your health. Bipolar depression is a tricky illness to get under control. And then once you get it under control, you need to learn how to react to life differently.

Because how you've been reacting to life now, with you bipolar disorder uncontrolled, will no longer work as well for you. You will see life itself differently. You'll have different goals and reactions yourself. And your personal interactions will be different too.

It's a lot of hard work but a lot of less misery ahead for you. And yes, you will still feel happiness with medication. You won't be a zombie. Good luck.

I think the first thing you need to do is get a second opinion from another doctor...because there are many people affected by bi-polar who work and lead normal lives-or try to at least......maybe your doctor doesnt want you to work right now because your disorder isn't controlled at the moment....try researching some medicines that are used to treat bi-polar and ask your doctor about taking them........if you are depressed as well...you might want to see a counselor (or not) to have someone to talk to...but try gettin a second opinion to see what someone else has to say...but I dont think you are being lazy..but I do think you need to take control of the situation and get some answers...

I would suggest that you take this time to get you bp under control and if you have student loans check with the issuer because they can forgive those loans if your doctor has deemed you disabled also apply for social security they may deny you the first time but appeal and that should do the trick good luck and forget what everyone else has to say about your character you are you and EVERYONE deserves to be loved :)

I think everyone is being a little harsh. They don't know you or your situation. My husband is a Doctor, and has said many times, people who are bipolar often work. More often than not. I would see another Doctor. There are medications available, to help you deal with your condition. Good luck, and hang in there. :)

it doesn't matter what anyone here on Yahoo Answers 'feels' about you...what are you doing to get your bipolar disorder under control?

It's not just medication you know...there are other things like diet and counseling...or if you're 'disabled' because of a chemical imbalance, there are medications to take also.

You're both lazy and on a guilt trip. You can get on medication for bipolar disorder and your MD sounds like a dumbass. You need a second opinion, and good luck on wasting your life away. I know tons of people with bipolar disorder and they all do pretty well despite their illness.

Forget all the thoughts. Apply for disability, first apply with SSA, they will deny you, then go to a disability atty who will get it for you for a % of the back pay, the checks you get monthly are yours. I am bipolar too.
