Aren't the symptop are alike and can be mistakenly diagnose between the two?

Have a person with CP who having anxiety, visual, mood, pain, and sleep too much problem. Can the person mistaken and not be diagnose as MS?

She is getting older and living with her mother. I was trying to help the mother in finding solution for her daughter. She is being abrasive socially and it draining her energy.

I was hoping that there part of the brain chemical that is out of balance. Most of the medication given from phy doctor is not working. The result of the medication is almost like Placebo effect (not effective).

What is the best medication in your opinion that doesn't get a placebo?

Every medication has been tried including Lexpro, Seroquel, etc.

The mother haven't tried natural supplement yet. There are still few other things to adminster but the mental doctor is sluggish.

If CP is mistaken instead of MS, that would be something interesting.

The daughter is 20 years old. She does act childlish when she get rejected from people.

You said "Have a person with CP who having anxiety, visual, mood, pain, and sleep too much problem. Can the person mistaken and not be diagnose as MS?"

The answer is NO. If the person has CP - it would have already been diagnosed at a very young age. For the symptoms you described, to be diagnosed with CP, those symptoms would have been around since birth.

There are cases people are diagnosed with CP as adults... but the symptoms are so mild they don't get picked until there was a particular problem which needed investigating. But for the symptoms you described... if it was CP it would have to be present since birth and NOT just present itself now.

The symptoms are alike but CP is permanent and the area of the body that is affected will ALWAYS show those symptoms. The damage to the brain is permanent and manifested since birth. MS symptoms can come and go. You said she "act childlish when she get rejected from people. " and " being abrasive socially " - even that does NOT sound like MS.

There might be some other cause in her brain. I wish you well in finding some answers to her condition.

That's my opinion.

Hope that makes sense.

Although the both affect the brain, there are many differences. Multiple schlerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease. That means your immune system attacking your own body. In the case of MS, it specifically attacks your brain. What causes your immune system to behave in this way is still unknown. It never occurs in children, it can occur in adults only. Cerebral palsy is something that occurs during development of a baby and childbirth, and it covers many conditions that cause impaired brain development. It may not involve the immune system. MS develops over time and gets worse, but there are some treatments that help. Cerebral palsy is bad from the beginning and can never improve.

Cerebral Palsy is from birth or just after. A stroke or head injury could have the some result of damage to the back of the cerebral.

results in not been able to control muscle and movement.

Cerebral Palsy stay the some, don't get worse or better.

MS a person can have good days and bad days.

It can suddenly get worse.

It possible for a person with C.P to got depression. Which can result in mode swings, sleeping to much, etc.

20 would be pretty young for someone to be diagnosed with MS but if she has CP she probably would have been diagnosed at a fairly young age.

CP usually results from lack of oxygen before, during or after birth and the signs are most likely to appear before the age of 3. Depending on the severity of her physical difficulties she probably would have been diagnosed not long after the incident which caused the CP.

One problem could be the way she was bought up. If for instance she went to a school or was bought up in a family where everyone treated her as a child and automatically accepted her then she hasn't had much experience with using her own abilities to get what she wants or with rejection. The way she was bought up may also have an impact on the social side of things. Alternatively it may be the fact that she doesn't feel like she is really a member of society because of the way people treat her.

Rejection is a fact of life for everybody not just young people or people with disabilities.

I don't know anything about the medications but the mother and daughter probably need to talk to the doctor and tell him/her that it is not working and ask him if there is any other medications or therapies which may be able to help her.

Here are some links which should give you some insight into the symptoms of MS and CP. From there you can compare and contrast them and decide whether they are simalar. From what I've seen the disabilities themselves aren't however you may be confused because the aids and equipment used by both groups could be simalar or even the same (eg. wheelchairs, crutches, alternative computer devices, communication devices, etc)

I have MS and can tell you that isn't it. MS is a autoimmune disease that causes the mylin(the coating of your nerves) to be destroyed. It also causes lesions to develop on the brain which can in some cases effect moods, memory, cognative ability, etc.

What you describe sounds much more in the mental health realm. It can take a long time to find the right med or meds(combos often work best) to treat an illness. Keep in mind as well many psych meds take a couple of months of slowly building their doseage in your system before they become truly effective. Don't write something off too quickly as doing nothing.

Can a person with cerebral palsy also get ms?
2008-10-02 17:32:59 UTC
No, the two diseases are entirely different and entirely unrelated. I don't even know how one could be mistaken for the other. Cerebral palsy is evident at birth or very shortly afterward and its causes are known and apparent. MS is an immunological disease that involves the coating surrounding the nerves. It usually develops in adulthood and in very rare cases in childhood. A doctor would have to be near brain dead to mistake one for the other.

Multiple Sclerosis and Cerebral Palsy are two completely Disabilities.

Multiple Sclerosis is a fatal disease in rare cases. Severe Multiple Sclerosis can shorten a person's life. Cerebral Palsy is not a fatal Disability and will not shorten a person's life.

The daughter needs to go to a qualified medical physician for the proper medical assessment and proper medical treatment.
