The computer randomly selects cases for a "quality" review. They review both approvals and denials. The review covers the medical evidence and the decision made. If the reviewer agrees with the disability examiner then the file is returned for release of the notice. If the reviewer doesn't agree it is returned to the disability examiner for further work.

It adds a week or so to the overall processing time; much longer if the reviewer feels that the examiner needs to collect more evidence or needs to set up a consultative examiner.

And? It is always reviewed. Part of the process.
