I have a learning disability, I find it extremely frustrating when ever I do find a job. I am tired of being told for example sherry can make 200 ice cream cones with sprinkles, whip cream, hot chocolate and cherry on top. Well good for sherry she is either not disabled for has a different disability. Tired of people assuming I am lazy when I have a disability. Bobby might be able to handle ten task at once, I might only be able to handle 2 or 3 at a time because of my disability. it is always the same no matter what job I get. I would love a solution to the problem or any good suggestions. I an using state rehabilitation work services and a job coach but they cannot do all the work for me. I am aware that it can be frustrating at times I do not understand people get tired a repeat themselves and times I could be slow moving.

That must be so frustrating for you. Have you told your boss about your disability, though? Unless they know about it, they cannot help you or understand why you may take longer than other people to complete tasks. I know plenty of people that don't work as fast as other people, but they get the job done right. You are one of them. And what is better...making 200 sloppy ice cream cones or a fraction of those done beautifully? You must make your employer aware of your disability. If they still do not understand or accommodate you, it's time to find a new job.

If you dont mind me asking, What kind of learning disability do you have?

I also have a learning disorder too, mainly dyslexia, a bit of dysgraphia and some language disorder. But still I have managed to get a job without any problems. Although some tasks can be difficault, but not impossible and does take me longer to practice then others. But I manange.

I work in this cafe at a hospital, it gets very hectic and some ask for really confusing stuff, I often just forget what they have said and it's really hard to follow certain instructions, (you get people asking for, 4 teas and 2 cuppicinos and then they say, can I have 3 less milky, two very strong and 2 with extra sugar and the others less hot). I just get so confused. It takes me longer to count the money too, and well pronouncing some words and sentences is hard too. I often say, would you like eeffoc milky or eat less strong, it's annoying and the Doctors there always asking me if I have dyslexia, it's very embarrassing sometimes.

But if you don't want anything bad to happen, you really have to tell someone, they will find ways of making your job easier and cant force you to do something that's impossible. You have rights.

Call the county and or state because they know of companies that get special consideration for iring people with learning disabilities. If they can not help you then go to the federal government. Good luck to you.

Always inform your boss about your learning disability. Legally they cannot fire you on the basis of your learning disability. Don't use it as a crutch either.

Do not worry about the others. What matters is if YOU are happy doing your job.
