I think I understand what you're saying, if I am right you're trying to say "If everyone is different, then why are people labeled disabled if we are all different anyway?" if i'm right, then thats a darn good question....it makes no sense really

but if your thinking of the other interpretation of why people have disabilities, then it is because not everyone is perfect...

To me... there's no blank & white in the world. Everything is like a colour spectrum with every point differ slightly with the previous point. i.e. in a linear scale.. from one end to another.

Let say the disability of blindness. there are people who have brillient sight, some people with miedian, others with poor, and some are blinded. We can call people who is blinded disable, but can also call people who have slightly bad eye sight disable. It really only depends on where we draw the boundary line to seperate 'normal' & 'disable' people.

Clinically, they sometimes 'draw the line' by: x% of the population that perform worst in xx would be defined as disable. IQ test is one of the examples.

So Yea! we are all different! disability is just a 'label' people use to discribe others who are less able in certain things. The main aim's too help these people! Well I hope...

You speak a great deal of sense! I would normally be considered able-bodied but if I was in a room full of the British paralympic team.......hmmmm. I think I would be amongst the least physically able. Try reading Controversial Issues in a Disabling Society (I forget the author) if you are interested in the subject. The line between able-bodies and disabled has been drawn by the World Health Organisation in their definition which has been used in subsequent British legislation. Legislation differs in different countries though so it is possible to be in the interesting position of being 'disabled' in one country and 'able' in another.

Because the idea and acceptance that everyone is different is a new and modern idea. Back in the day, anyone who seems a bit different was either disabled/retarded, and/or a sinner doomed for hell. LOL, that's the dark ages for ya and Victorian Era. Remember GBLT used to be considered mentally ill thus being disabled.

because most people (able bodied and able minded) are not impeded by their personal limitations on a day to day basis in a normal environment. While people with disabilities are impeded due to the environment they are in combined with their personal restrictions. But I do know what you mean - like is a little old lady disabled because she never reach the top shelf? No probably not. Is she disabled because her knees have gone and she can't walk more than 20 feet - yes she is.

But I understand your point - i think you are saying that because everyone is different, then no one is really disabled or actually we all are, because we are all limited in some way, i.e. colour blindness, shortness, need glasses etc. But like I say i think the benchmark is how it affects your ability to operate in the environment of day to day society unaided without help or technology.

well there are certain things that human beings should generally be able to do such as walking. when people can't do those things then they are considered disabled. some people are born disabled, some people develop disabilities and some people get injured. disability really refers to the inability to perform tasks as the average person would. everyone has different strengths and weaknesses but in some cases the person's body or mind does not allow them to perform tasks necesary to financially support themselves, there are also people who are not able to take care of themselves at all. life is not perfect and it is not fair, that's why we have disabilities.

Everything that happens in life is chance, it is scary but true. If there is a higher power it created life this way. There isn't a reason why people get sick, it is just bad luck. People like to feel they have some control over life and can if they act a certain way prevent bad things happening to them, but this isn't what life is about. Bad things can happen to good people and good things to bad. If you know someone who is unlucky enough to have a disability, instead of questioning why it has happened, do what you can do to help them and bring positive things into their lives. My mum has MS, it is a horrible disease which has taken so much away from her, I try to lift her spirits, make her laugh and bring positivity into her life. You have to make the most of a bad situation and turn the negatives in life into positives.

God made us all to be differant. That has occured from the time when Adam & Eve at the apple to now. I have Epilepsy & I'm ALSO on Provicial disability here in Niagara Falls ON, Canada.

God made us to be differant just to allow us to CHOOSE whether to follow God or not to. THAT is also set with how we all are born. How we were made. Thus we each have to learn patience & understanding of LIFE to live it.

Life is unfair, everyone says we're equal. But it's really that everybody is better than somebody.Just go to your average american high school and U'll know what I'm talking about.People with disabilites are seen as inferior to everyone else, even the computer nerds tend to make fun of them.

Because they are different from everybody else in a different way than the way others are different.

They are also the same as others who are different from everybody else in the same way that they are.
